FRENCH IMMERSION

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

French Immersion provides students with opportunities to acquire and maintain language skills in French and English.

LATE FRENCH IMMERSION

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Late French Immersion provides students in Grade 7 with opportunities to acquire and maintain language skills in French and English.

Students interested in the Late French Immersion Program should use the form Mckernan Junior High Expression of Interest Form and request further information.

INTERNATIONAL SPANISH ACADEMY

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The International Spanish Academy is a bilingual program that provides students with opportunities to acquire and maintain language skills in Spanish and English.  McKernan offers the continuation of this program for grade 7 to 9.

  • Develop language and literacy skills in Spanish and English, and use both to communicate
  • Learn about the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries

ELIGIBILITY

  • To register in Grade 7, students will be transferring from an Elementary Spanish program.
  • Students entering the program after Grade 1 are considered on an individual basis.

 

PRE-ADVANCED PLACEMENT

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Pre-Advanced Placement is an internationally recognized program that provides junior high students with academically rigorous programming.

GOALS

  • Develop academic skills in a challenging learning environment
  • Demonstrate personal responsibility, diligence and self-discipline

BENEFITS             

  • Improved ability to handle rigorous and advanced coursework
  • Improved work and study skills
  • Familiarity working at an accelerated pace
  • Preparation for academic programming in Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate

PROGRAM DELIVERY 

  • In-depth study of advanced concepts
  • Instruction delivered at an accelerated pace
